Because I didn't feel well yesterday and didn't get to answer.
1. Have you taken notice of which films are nominated for Oscars this year?
Just from things I've seen on TV...been a bit head-down in politics and my own writing.
2. Do you plan to watch the Oscars ceremony?I don't really like ceremony or all that couture stuff so not my jam.although I've seen enough to know some of the cliches: Telling their kids to go to sleep, etc

3. How many of this year's Oscar nominated films have you seen?I haven't. Still don't feel safe about going to the theater and too many of the streamers have all their exclusives and stuff.

4. Do you plan to see more/any of the Oscar nominated films before the Oscars ceremony?Probably catching up from two years ago...not that I don't enjoy doing that.

5. Do you generally seek out and watch the film that wins Best Picture?I usually like to...I think it can be a real artistic snapshot of the film's era.

-"Matewan" was a tough watch, but it was worth it.
and I blogged about "UnReal", which I thought was great.

Maybe I would have had Jake and Caroline get in a bigger fight at the dance. Maybe in addition to "Plenty of guys would kill to love me,"(which, somebody thinks a lot of herself) Maybe she could be like "The next guy that comes through here, I'll leave with!"

introduced by one of my imaginary husbands, Ben from TCM.

In other news, I hate summer, and wish I had more to say.
But I'm feeling a bit more hale physically

Funny, sad, and deep. Also, I hope, slightly wrong, obviously. Would have loved a last-second save from the scruffy burnouts...but of course, I have to root for my constituency,
(Also, if I were Mika on TV and saw this, would totally *still* be wearing a mask, hat, and glasses. But maybe it makes her be that way that she wouldn't notice.)
Why does my internet like it better when I watch two hours of episodes more than if I watch two hours all at once? Weird.

(Although I have seen other stuff intended to be streamed in other formats.)
It was this one.

My inner teen picked I think, but I admit to a weakness for coming-of age material.
Disconcerting to see my college crush, John Corbett, AKA Chris in The Morning(maybe I'm not married because Chris isn't real) in Paterfamilias Mode, but he still looked good, etc. (The whole cast is really good.)It's not altogether comfy watching movies in my office/ workspace but it seemed like the simplest answer for my rudimentary-upgraded-from-nonexistent tech skills and lack of desire to go router shopping.

I think I would trade my life for the equivalent in magic beans.
But it felt pretty great yesterday to be tucked up in bed for what could have been read as a double feature of "The Apartment" and "Crossing Delancey" as part of TCM's "Love Stories in New York" last night.

Nothing earth-shattering; just a rare moment where I wouldn't want to be other than me, so I thought I'd log it, if nothing else than as a counterpoint to my endless mental podcast that I could title "My God, I Cheated Death For This?!"(But if anyone was that interested, it might not be like that. You know?)

I watched both "Before Sunrise"(which I thought I'd seen before, but maybe my college roommate picked it and I complained a lot) but I liked it better this time. I could watch Ethan Hawke and Julie...or I thought of her as French Lisa Kudrow(Which is not intended as a diss...really do see a resemblance.) not make it for a few more hours, though it started slowly.

But then I watched "Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf?!" which may have been the quickest distance I have ever come from the "Aw, I want that!" afterglow of the last movie to "You know what? I'm good."without a crying baby covered in spit-up being involved.

It feels strange being almost the same age as George and Martha, but I don't quite feel that I am down-shifting in quite the same way--maybe I am kidding myself about that...just because some film stars and pols with money see their nineties, it definitely doesn't guarantee it for my disabled ass. But maybe that is the glass half-full of not getting to make the same solid-citizen forever choices that people more successful at being George and Martha than G & M made--maybe it keeps me young(ish) Although I don't really like it when it makes me feel like I'm still at the kids' table, either.

to "Mean Girls", but it personally reminds me of how I rode in the short bus, and therefore, grew up as an exchange student in my own nation.

Stellar writing and directing outing from douchebag chronicler(and Ryan from The Office", but at times this is redundant) BJ Novak.
Lots of interesting stuff in this one as Novak, a wannabe journalistic It-Boy whose hook-ups generally wouldn't outlast a television cliffhanger, is found in the phone of a Texas transplant named Abi after she dies unexpectedly.
In a story, it seems like a bad sign that I'm turning fifty and finishing off my netflix queue at the exact same time. Seems like a nasty little hit of death symbolism...maybe I should write it?
Although I've never been much of a hand for symbolism...

but that's what happened last night...it's one of my favorite movies(Except it's so long, and channels usually start it so late...cause, with the hits and all, that I've started it ten times and finished it, say, twice.)

"Mrs. Harris Goes To Paris."
It looked beautiful as well as making me wonder what could jump-start my life as haute couture did Mrs. Harris'

but if they did, scenery aside-- Bali is freaking beautiful, obvs, and for a few minutes the Clooney-Roberts feuding parent snark isn't terrible) but overall, that movie would be "Ticket to Paradise" Because for over an hour and a half, people move around, and see stuff, and tell people they love each other and "No hard feelings"etc, but nothing happens. A young promising legal grad decides an associate's life's not for her? Why? Is it just about the impossibly sweet Balinese guy with the exotic family that doesn't partake in shenanigans cause they don't speak English? Is it because she doesn't like being like her parents?(Could be either, but the movie doesn't decide or something.) And of course Fiance is everything he says he is and grows sustainable kelp.(Which is cool, but I finally know what it means when a note says that a story "lacks tension" because it's better for a wedding movie when you get a feeling about why the knot is untied besides "it isn't time yet." Can't recommend this one, except for the sights and to kill time, even knowing that, easing out of a pandemic, maybe nobody was up for a Norman Lear family fight-fest. Or, you know, I actually really like "Better Things" but I *have* had to turn it off because Pamela Adlon is really good at writing about the stuff that mothers and daughters really argue about.

to finish watching "A Time To Kill"(Multiple sessions, over years, starting with a botched "BlockBuster night" back when,)that I went from being seriously engaged by its morality play to appreciating it for finding its corniness and stars chewing up the courtroom restful.(I've changed a lot, and they mostly show that one late at night, so when I fell asleep, was not sure if it was me or the movie. Both? It's weird to watch something that it...kind of thinks it's very deep and complicated while I'm thinking how very black-and-white(Ha!) the whole flick is.
Felt weird to start the Pelican Brief last night thinking two dead justices as almost a good start.(I did go to sleep before finishing that one this time, but I finished it once.)

I hope my intent to show off dreamwidth comes through in any case. Just want to save some keystrokes while I can!

(well, Actual Mom did it.I just say things otherwise to occasionally put verbs in my sentences) But I'm back to strawberry blonde again.
Watched that Nic Cage one about "the weight of unbearable talent" or whatever...pretty funny, not a lot of commentary required

with "Clemency". some of my favorite actors, but executions make for a downbeat premise and really muted visuals.(Not that that doesn't make every bit of sense, right, but I did kind of expect a turning point somewhere that never quite materialized...either that Aldis Hodge wouldn't be executed, or that Alfre Woodard, as the prison warden might quit her job rather than presiding over another execution, or maybe that it would break up her marriage to Wendell Pierce.
Now, I know in real life, economic concerns, or hanging in for the health insurance is very much part of some of our decisions--Blown Deadline productions makes things all the time that capture that kind of thing while still being more compelling... even knowing a lot of us make decisions by deciding not to decide(I feel bad about this in my own life, for instance) but maybe in a movie, I need a protagonist to choose.
so, I didn't hate it, but can't really recommend, even if you are dark enough to ring in your weekend with a pair of executions.
