Well, I Did Get Back In Here...
Oct. 31st, 2025 02:50 pmso, maybe after a thousand more times, i might not feel "bad with computers" any more. Maybe.
here's the Friday five for this week:
Did you vote in your most recent applicable election? (If you're not yet old enough, do you plan to vote in the future?)
Yep. Vote-by-mail helps a lot!
2. Have you ever protested or attended a march?Yes, quite a few...virtual ones are not quite the same
3. What political issue is the most important to you?Health care, disability rights, income inequality...there are a lot.
4. Are you a member of a party in your country? If so, which?Holding down the Dems' left flank.
5. Do you ever plan to run for office?I've thought about it, but maybe my postings would count against me. And maybe I was just trying to picture a future and my job rubbed off a bit. Just don't want to be this, forever.
Copy and paste to your own journal, then reply to this post with a link to your answers. If your journal is private or friends-only, you can post your full answers in the comments below.
If you'd like to suggest questions for a future Friday Five, then do so on DreamWidth or LiveJournal. Old sets that were used have been deleted, so we encourage you to suggest some more!

Went back to the source...
Sep. 22nd, 2024 04:21 pmMy parents met at the mall. Which, if I were rich enough to run for Congress, might be described as a "classic, mid-century American story". My mother worked at the mall while pregnant with me. We made homemade Orange Julius today because she says I "owe my life" to them.
Other excitement: Extended internet outage in place of weekly Town hall. Needed a break, but not like that!

Finally watched "Don't Look Up"
Feb. 21st, 2024 02:55 pmFunny, sad, and deep. Also, I hope, slightly wrong, obviously. Would have loved a last-second save from the scruffy burnouts...but of course, I have to root for my constituency,
(Also, if I were Mika on TV and saw this, would totally *still* be wearing a mask, hat, and glasses. But maybe it makes her be that way that she wouldn't notice.)
Why does my internet like it better when I watch two hours of episodes more than if I watch two hours all at once? Weird.

Streamed my first movie...
Jan. 14th, 2024 05:40 pm(Although I have seen other stuff intended to be streamed in other formats.)
It was this one.

My inner teen picked I think, but I admit to a weakness for coming-of age material.
Disconcerting to see my college crush, John Corbett, AKA Chris in The Morning(maybe I'm not married because Chris isn't real) in Paterfamilias Mode, but he still looked good, etc. (The whole cast is really good.)It's not altogether comfy watching movies in my office/ workspace but it seemed like the simplest answer for my rudimentary-upgraded-from-nonexistent tech skills and lack of desire to go router shopping.

"Misty watercolor memories..."
May. 8th, 2023 11:41 amA blog questionnaire got me thinking today. A lot of my tech experience, as fun and exciting and From The Future as it can be at its best, involves my losing things. I just found out that some of my most-read at one time essays aren't online anymore, but sometimes things get lost because I don't keep up.I don't know what to do when it's time to update and things like that, so it doesn't happen.Thought I had a printer problem, but got some advice and I'm just not very smart about printers. By the time I figure this one out, I'll probably have a new one anyway, or they won't make paper or something...sometimes it is hard on my self-concept how fast I went from trying to be cool to trying not to be hopelessly lost. sigh.
(And I was hoping for some happier Memories than those that populated LJ, which, mixed bag.)
Saved some things now I may want to look back on, but may be completely wrong.

Old enough to count this as milestone...
Dec. 4th, 2022 04:58 pmI think I have called either all, or 49 of fifty states as of now.(Memories of, say, SC, are a bit vague, and it has been over a decade, but Hawaii, that might have been the holdout if SC is not, was on the list this afternoon.)
Sometimes it still blows my mind that we can do that, being as I grew up with Sunday long-distance that made my grandparents shout to be heard.

I would miss the brushes with fame and the chance that someone I might mention in passing got to see my thoughts about them, even though that also has a dark side from time to time.
May be kind of dumb, but building that following did take some time, effort and attention, and much as with my education, it's been slow to see the rewards from the investment.
Wouldn't miss all the GIFs, the world according to Elon, or the frantic updates when a Kardashian scratches her big ass.
Downsides: This is better for the "need to talk to my friends," problem than the "Connecting with campaigns, etc." problem. At least, so far.
