we'd never spend the money for ourselves...it's fun and stuff, but I'm greedy enough to want a positive thing in my life that doesn't involve movies or TV. Something I'm not just watching, even if it's neat to lie in bed and pull up Hamilton.
Also, I can't get past the feeling that somebody thought "Aw, poor thing, she can't get out, it's the least we could do," which bothers me even if it being three million degrees at this time of the year does make me feel closer to pitiful than would be my heart's desire.
chicating: love--homicide quote (love)
From two weeks ago--
. Have you ever been to summer camp?
Yeah, but my crip camp wasn't like in the doc.(That movie still did bring back memories, though.) Didn't really love camp, but maybe I just expected too much. Like...I don't know, finding My People or entering some world where I'd be hot. I found out I'm bad at adaptive sports, too.

2. Have you ever made a s'more? No, you know, I haven't. Although I've bought candy that's like...an homage and liked it but I've never had a real one.

3. Have you ever slept under the stars (no tent/tarp)?the one thing about camping I wish I could do!

4. Have you ever had a member of the opposite sex sleep over at your house?Yeah, but not since college.

5. What type of bed do you have (queen, twin, bunk, etc.)? I have a brand-new full mattress.

--writing has been different since I no longer look at the abled world with the same combination of fangirlishness "I wanna be *just.like. you*and that thing when you see a happy couple in public and think "I want one of those."--It's kind of hard to know what to strive for since that happened, though.(There's not enough crip culture in my life to make that another option. Besides, I buy Alice Wong's books to support AW, but that's not the same as relating a whole bunch.) Knockoff assimilation might have been a sad template, but it was one.
-It's been a few years, but I think I can admit that I find Ken Jennings to be something of a lady-boner killer(Which is ironic since he got so busted for writing on twitter that seeing a pretty crip lady made him sad, or some shit like that.)
chicating: I have a new dragon (Default)
feels kind of stupid...whose idea was that?
we're still working on the new TV thing.

possibly not for abled consumption)

over this last week or so(when your body doesn't need much reason to act weird, it can be hard to tell.)
Doing a lot better now, anyway...makes what I've been up to look a little better, even to my own skeptical eyes.
Could have been a lot worse, but my concentration was literally a gut feeling for a few days.

Not sure answering this one is the greatest idea, but...
These questions were suggested by [livejournal.com profile] malloreigh.

1. What sets you apart from your friends? Depends. Sometimes I feel separate from both my disabled and abled friends. But in different ways. I feel like I've been on a different "journey"(ugh, so reality) than everyone I ever met. Kind of lonely, even when I know more people than ever.

2. What sets you apart from your family? None of them are writers. My mother just will not admit how different my life is from other people's. We don't fight much, but this is a real point of contention.

3. What sets you apart from your coworkers/fellow students? can I say everything but politics? Because they got to travel and be a part of things, and I'm about 51-going on 16.(I guess it keeps me young but in the most embarrassing, sweaty-palms, rookie kind of way...kind of hate it.

4. What is the one thing about you that is most unique? Besides being the broken Hummel figurine who, maybe because she almost died, could win the John Munch think-a-like contest? My ear for dialogue? My deeply disturbed sense of humor.

5. What is your most interesting quality?Probably the contrast between the outside and the inside.

would be easier to take if there was some specific thing Out There for me to chase.
Still sort of tired of being virtually alive.

1. What was the best gift you received?I got a kitty, early one christmas.

2. What was the worst gift you received? My birthday is often close to back to school--I've gotten a few snotty head colds.

3. What gift did you wish for, but never got?Always kind of wanted an 80s-teen-movie crazy party, never had the right kind of life.

4. What was the best present you gave?I'm a great gift-giver.
5. What was the worst present you gave?A few years I was broke and really had to fake it.

You're holding a dinner party and can invite three famous people from the past or present; who would they be?
Kurt Cobain, Richard Belzer, and disability activist Judy Heumann(At least today. Another day, different answer.) Maybe Bobby Kennedy so he can call up and yell at his son the way he so richly deserves.I think I might enjoy hearing "What the fuck is wrong with you?" in that accent, though he'd probably also be sad that he wasn't there and all that.

2. You have the opportunity to question someone about something you've always wanted to know and receive a truthful answer; what would your question be? I would ask God or some other supreme being whether there is a larger destiny fulfilled in the whole crip thing or whether it's an accident, like getting the too-brown crouton or some shit like that. I'm not sure which I'd be rooting for....being part of Meaning, especially with some direction, would be nice, but knowing "Mistakes were made," might actually relieve some pressure that I've had for...most of my life, actually.

3. If you could change one thing in your life, what would it be? Am I ungrateful if I say "most of it." Because there are nice parts, I swear, but I still kind of think "most of it" anyway. I hate that I live here, I hate that I have to keep fighting about poor-people shit.I hate the second-adolescent space I'm kind of stuck in, like, if you *remember* the album "Parents Just Don't Understand" that probably shouldn't be in your weekly thought process anymore unless you're the mom who doesn't get it. right? Bleagh.

4. If you could save other people's lives by completing an act that would lead to your own death, would you do it?
God, yes, please. Sign me up. That might actually be part of the draw, perhaps.
5. Would you commit murder if you knew that you could get away with it?
I know that people who think they know me would probably say I'd say "No. Because it's wrong." People who really know me know I have a Wish List, so, yeah. "If I'm at your door, you know why I'm there."

This is from what would be my novel, "Wedded Twist"...I'm not sure I believe it will be finished and published anymore because I've been thinking "ooh, my first novel" about some little nonsense FOREVER, but maybe.

The mams on "Derry Girls" were talking about a reunion classmate and one says
"If she were chocolate, she'd be eating herself."(every class has that girl.)
"Derry Girls" is pretty funny, for kind of also being about the war/resolution in Northern Ireland. (Great soundtrack from mid90stoo)
Sometimes I want to imitate the way they talk, but I don't do it. Even though I...kind of get the feeling there's an array of harmlessly crazy stuff I could do as a lifetime "God love her," prizeholder, if you know what I mean. Not much compensation for my country giving up on me, but I *could* say what I want like a saucy grandma in a sitcom from when I was a kid. (Not if I care about respect. Or, you know, ever being a ride, if I ever meet somebody hot again. ) And I do, mostly. But there is a side that's both bored and pragmatic that tells me "Fuck it, you're the wacky neighbor, not the lead."

oday's questions were brought to you by [livejournal.com profile] mmia.

1. How are you stereotypically female?
I'm emotional, like bright colors,am creative. I keep a journal.Diagnostically bad at math. kind of dislike sports.

2. How are you stereotypically male? I curse a lot, sometimes hide my feelings with a joke, and sometimes laugh at people. Not a great dresser, but I'm learning how I look and feel best.(not likely to pick a style that's painful or going to put me out.) I like reading and writing about crime and mob bosses, etc.

3. What parts of you do you consider unclassifiable as either gender?Because I don't live in a Rock Hudson movie, I don't really believe that there's a female brain or heart.

4. Do you think you are primarily male, female, or neither in characteristics?Definitely female.

5. If you could be born as any gender, knowing the gender prejudices as they are now, which would you choose to be? While I don't need to do this to feel whole or anything like that, but if you could switch back and forth easily or with magic, I think I could learn a lot from being a guy for, say, a year, but I'm fine about being a woman, if not really thinking I get the most benefits in living it.(would really like to do something about this...not sure how)

Who was your first crush?
Either James Garner/ Mariette Hartley or (irony) Christopher Reeve. Sometimes I think I have some weird vengeance demon power that also hurt Christina Applegate because I wanted a body like hers when I was a teenager. Now hers is kind of like mine. Sorry, Christina.
2. Are you an introvert or an extrovert?right on the border of either.

3. What is your favorite non-sexual thing you like to do with the love of your life? It would appear that we exchange a lot of e-mail and private messages. If he is the person I think he is.(For logistics' sake, I hope there's another one, just so I'm beloved in my zip code.)

4. What is one quirky habit your partner does that either annoys you or makes you grin? I'm unpartnered, but if I were not, I suppose I don't understand withdrawing to lick one's wounds.

5. Do you believe in monogamous relationships?
I used to be very about this, despite the fact that I have more of an image of Santa's workshop. Now, I'm not sure, although it wasn't smart to work that out on my dating profile...going from zero to throuple=too fast.

1. If you could retroactively erase one TV show from the history of entertainment, which one would you choose?
"Lifestyles Of The Rich and Famous" et al. CEO worship has done a lot of damage.

2. Are you more like your mother or your father?Mostly mom, but when I get obsessed with things, that's more like my dad. Though we don't share obsessions.

3. If you could take a year-long vacation, what would you do?Among other things, go back to the Bay Area again.

4. Can you think of a reason not to answer this question? I'd say "Loose Lips sink ships," But I already feel like the oldest person who uses one of these accounts, anyway.(Not that I remember that--I just had grandparents.)

5. What's the nicest thing you've ever done for someone?I don't know...I try to share what I have and stuff like that, but sometimes I give myself too much credit for not doing the bitchiest things that float through my head sometimes...not sure I deserve those points.

1. I hate that ad SO GODDAMN much. But thanks for the reminders of important things:

a. That suddenly becoming conventionally attractive and symnetrical wouldn't suddenly fix all the demons in my head.(Yes, Mom, I know I'm beautiful for about five minutes a year, after great effort and fiddling. Big whoop...I'm not a troll, but neither is my best day what I really look like, and they don't get me anything but photos I can't live up to, anyway.)

2. we can't count on women to always change things for the better, much less bring some kind of compassionate wellspring, etc. This pisses me off. part of me would love to make up for everything I've missed by being some kind of giant separatist. But I can't, because of bitches like you, Kristi Noem.

3.Based on even a cursory understanding of the US's role in Latin America(albeit undertaken while learning a second language, she noted modestly) we owe them, not the other way around. (Also, I love cherries so much that if I were Madam President, all cherry pickers would have instant protected status. their work is vital.
4. No healthy society sucks up to its president that much. Also, stop wasting our money.

5. Yes, threats make living here seem totally appealing.
6. You killed a puppy and bragged about it to seem like a bad ass that Makes The Tough Choices, you crazy ghoul.
7. The Indians won't let you on the reservations in SD.(I wish Indians had done that more. Not sure where I fit in that world, either, but it might be better than this one, anyway.)

A man goes to a doctor and gets bad news.
"I'm sorry, but you have a few weeks to live."
Understandably distraught, the man says "That's terrible. I want a second opinion."
"Ok," the doctor says. "You're ugly, too."
(This isn't my way of breaking health news...some bureaucratic bullshit brought it to mind.
