with "Clemency". some of my favorite actors, but executions make for a downbeat premise and really muted visuals.(Not that that doesn't make every bit of sense, right, but I did kind of expect a turning point somewhere that never quite materialized...either that Aldis Hodge wouldn't be executed, or that Alfre Woodard, as the prison warden might quit her job rather than presiding over another execution, or maybe that it would break up her marriage to Wendell Pierce.
Now, I know in real life, economic concerns, or hanging in for the health insurance is very much part of some of our decisions--Blown Deadline productions makes things all the time that capture that kind of thing while still being more compelling... even knowing a lot of us make decisions by deciding not to decide(I feel bad about this in my own life, for instance) but maybe in a movie, I need a protagonist to choose.
so, I didn't hate it, but can't really recommend, even if you are dark enough to ring in your weekend with a pair of executions.
