chicating: I have a new dragon (Default)
Mostly because I sent a sworn bunkie...kind of a heavy missive and then wondered if he'd have liked this more.

Brian had had some long times in his times in the force, both at the academy and taking his detective exam, stakeouts in his uniform days, and staff meeting later on. Sometimes when he read the word “Wait” in the newspaper, his legs felt full of surplus motion. Sometimes they even twitched.(He’d always been too restless to test well…without some good clues or tips to focus his energy, maybe he had that thing the kids got all the pills for, but he’d gotten through all right. ) But nothing compared to those hours when he didn’t know what happened to Allyson. He’d felt like a bull in a china shop almost bursting into that Camp Challenge ladies’room(And how much could he have done to help, with his bad back, if she’d hit her head in there or been unconscious?
He’d been prepared to try, twinges and all, but he'd not been prepared to not find a sign of her anywhere and that Neil and Corrine actually trying to get attention from the(former?) long arm of the law. Corrine had even worked herself into such a lather that her makeup had those raccoonish black streaks that made her look like a raccoon. He felt foolish for thinking all the shadows on her face were natural, and for a crazy moment pictured Mary Beth laughing at him for being a detective who doesn’t notice things. He supposed he didn’t really notice how far apart they were growing or he wouldn’t be two hours away in the family hooptie wondering where another of his friends is. Seems like a lot of makeup for summer camp, he thought finally, feeling that there was a shadow of Mary Beth at his shoulder to approve the observation, however delayed.

The couple are hanging on by a thread. Brian had to act like one of his best bunkies was a lost contact lens to avoid catching their anxiety or the way that Neil walked around with his chest thrust out. Maybe Al was right, maybe they weren’t doing anything much, but their own behavior wasn’t doing them any favors. Brian could feel his hyper physicality starting to take over again as his foot tapped on the sidewalk. He took a deep breath and let it out as the did on some video his wife made him watch The video had been silly, all pan flutes and “Blessings” but he had to admit, taking a moment to focus was handy sometimes.
