minim_calibre I didn't know the parachute wasn't just a Palestinian symbol--I know I sent something out recently with one on it. I *try* not to put symbols out without being sure of what I send, but "Life comes at you fast, sometimes. it got away from me, in error. I don't support Hamas. I do want a free Palestine.
I won't send out another one.

but there are symbolic things that escape my predominantly white-ethnic Heinz-57 ass now and then.

Yeah, Hamas militants paraglided into the rave over the weekend and started shooting civilians, slaughtering hundreds, which is what the image refers to. The Community Notes on the BLM Chicago (which reports indicate is mostly made up of white people) tweet with it are grimly amusing. “Previous to this incident, Palestinians were not known for paragliding.”

The people who put the imagery together are engaged in, at best, the worst sort of tribalism-based edge lord behavior. I am sure there are plenty who, like you, didn’t know the specifics behind it, but those who designed it sure as hell did. I am a cynical person with a strong stomach, and even I was shaken. The cruelty, as they say, sure appears to have been the point.
